One of the most requested recipes from my friends and family is butter chicken or murgh makhni. It is one of my favorite dish as well. There are so many variations to this as well but this is my version and it always works fine. Please try this and let me know if you enjoyed the dish.

Ingredients:

1. Fresh tomatoes (6 ) or canned(chopped tomatoes) (fresh is always good)
2. Onions (2small or 1 large)
3. Turmeric (quarter tea spoon) – antibiotic good for health
4. Chilli powder – 1 1/2 tsp
5. Cumin powder – 1 tsp
6. Coriander powder – 1 tsp
7. Garam masala – 3/4 tsp
8. Ginger Garlic paste – 2 tsp
9. Butter – Good knob of butter (around 8 tsp)
10. Cream – 250-300 ml
11. Salt for sure according to your taste
13. Bay leaf – 1
14. Cardamom – 4
15. Cloves – 4
16. Cinnamon stick – 1stick
17. Chicken breasts – 300-400 grams

Method:

Marinate chicken with 1/2 chilli powder, some salt, 1 spoon ginger garlic paste, you can also add half lime juice if you want.
Mix it well and keep it aside for half hour or overnight in the fridge.

Now fry chicken in oil and keep it aside.

In the pan pour some oil and add chopped onions, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, cardamom, cloves. Fry till onion are bit translucent. Then add rest ginger garlic paste, turmeric and fry 1 min then add chopped tomatoes.
Pour little bit water, lid on and leave till tomatoes are nice and squishy. Switch off and let it cool.

Now grind and make it into a paste.

Take a pan put some butter, paste(the sauce), add chicken, chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala and salt.
Let it cook for some time. Add some water if it is too thick.

Taste and add more spices if you need.

Very end add bit cream and cook for 1-2min.

Ready to eat with a naan or pulav rice 😉

NOTE:

  1. You can also add methi/fenugreek powder
  2. If you run out of cream you can add coconut milk or yogurt(it doesn’t taste the same but you will enjoy it. I tried both).
  3. For vegetarian version skip the first part(frying chicken) and follow rest of the steps and add paneer to the sauce.
  4. In case if your grinder doesn’t work don’t worry just follow the steps with out making it into a paste. It will taste amazing.
